Make sure you read these before playing the game
What is Required/Recommended
-The ANSWER submission box and hints page are located online. You will need a device such as a smartphone, tablet, or laptop that can connect to the internet. Feature phones are not compatible. (All data charges borne by the customer)
-Please wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking around the streets of Tokyo.
About this Game Event
-There is no time limit. It will take time to complete the game, so please challenge it when you have time to spare. However, do note that the 24-Hour Ticket that comes with the game kit will only be valid for 24 hours from when you first use it. If you choose to play the game over several days, you will either have to buy another 24-Hour Ticket, or pay separately for the train fares.
- You can play the game any day you choose during the event period (15 October 2019 to 16 February 2020). It does not have to be on the same day you bought/picked up your game kit.
-16 February 2020 is the last day the game can be played. Even if an unused game kit is bought before 16 February, it cannot be used anymore from 17 February 2020 onwards.
-Generally, you can enjoy the game from the time of the first train until the last train. However, there may be some checkpoints that will open late or close early.
-You will require a valid ticket to pass through the ticket gates. If you do not have a valid ticket, you are not allowed to enter or exit even for a brief period of time.
*Tokyo Metro does not sell tickets to enter a certain station without riding the train.
-It is not possible to use a ticket or IC card to enter and exit the same station (without getting on the train).
-Please take extra care when walking inside the train stations or at the platforms while playing this game. Please also refrain from causing non-players any trouble or inconvenience.
-Please understand that we are unable to take responsibility for any accidents or theft that occurs. Take extra care when playing the game.
-For parents & guardians of players under the age of 18, please make sure that they return home by 11PM. (According to the law - Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance Regarding the Healthy Development of Youths)
About the Game Kit
-Please enjoy this game by purchasing one game kit per person. Also, the 24-hour ticket that comes with the game kit is an adult's ticket, and it is not possible to replace it with a child's ticket at the child ticket's price.
-If you lose your game kit, we are unable to replace your lost kit with a new one. Please buy another game kit should you lose yours.
About Hints
-A hints page will be available throughout the game period begins to aid you with solving the puzzles. Check your puzzle guidebook for the link to the hints page.
-The Tokyo Metro staff at the platforms or the pass office do not have any hints or answers to the puzzles.
About Spoilers
-For the sake of players who have not yet played this game, please do not upload any information or photos of the puzzles, answers and game kit material onto social media or any online platform. It is also prohibited to resell a game kit.
About Refunds
-A refund will only be issued if you return an unused gamekit and 24-hour train ticket belonging to the "The Underground Mysteries 2019" until 16 Feb 2020 (Sun):
Ueno, Kita-Senju, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Ginza, Meiji-jingumae, Shimbashi, Oji Station
*For Shimbashi and Oji Station, returns will only be accepted at the Tokyo Metro Pass Office until 31 Jan 2020 (Fri).
*A refund will only be issued if you return an unused game kit and 24-hour train ticket belonging to the "The Underground Mysteries 2019". A handling fee of 220 yen will be required.
FAQs
Q: Is there a time limit?
A: There is no time limit. You can even play the game over several days so please enjoy the game at your own pace! However, do note that the 24-Hour Ticket that comes with the game kit will only be valid for 24 hours from when you first use it. If you choose to play the game over several days, you will either have to buy another 24-Hour Ticket, or pay separately for the train fares.
Q: If I'm playing in a group, do I need to buy game kits for everyone in the group?
A: The game kit includes all the materials that are necessary for game play, as well as the Tokyo Metro 24-hour Ticket. Please get a game kit for everyone in your group.
Q: Will I require a mobile phone or an internet connection for the game?
A: Most of the game can be played without needing internet. However, to check the hints page or submit your final answer, you will need to access the official website. You can do this by using any device (smart phones, tablets, laptops etc) to connect to the internet. Tokyo Metro offers free Wi-Fi at their stations. Refer to your puzzle guidebook on how to connect to the free Wi-Fi.
Q: Is there an age restriction?
A: There is no age restriction, but do note that the puzzles are set at a difficulty level more suitable for adults.
Also, do note that the game kits only come with 24-hour Tickets for adults.
Q: Can I get another game kit if I lose mine?
A: Sorry, but we cannot give you another game kit in the event that you lose one. Please buy another game kit should you lose yours.
Q: I can't solve any of the puzzles! What should I do?
A: A hints page will be available throughout the game period begins to aid you with solving the puzzles. Check your puzzle guidebook for the link to the hints page.
Q: Must I play the game on the same day that I bought/picked up the game kit?
A: No. You can play the game any day you choose during the event period (15 October 2019 to 16 February 2020)!
